Ok, has anyone else noticed the rather unusual names of some college players this season?

Smelley (USC quarterback)
Booty (USCal quarterback)
Fagg (FL State)
Succop (USC)

Got the correction, Paige!

Working on the yard

Today was clean up day in Coosada. Quarterly, the city provides Waste Management trucks at the City Hall for residents to throw away whatever. We sent 4 pickup truck loads of rotten wood left by the previous homeowners. Ridiculous.

I also spent the afternoon cleaning up Bullet. It needed it badly. It will be nice to have a clean car to ride to church in.

Speaking of which, Brooks is running a fever of 102.0 this afternoon. He has no other symptoms other than the fever. It seems to high for it to be his teeth (he STILL has several coming in), but we'll see if we are indeed AT church in the morning.

Thank goodness it's Friday!

It's been a busy week at our house!

Scott had his 2nd procedure to place his dental implant on Monday. For those who think that Scott is funny on a daily basis, you would really enjoy him after he has been under anesthesia! Quite a show. Yes, when we got home, he danced like a ballerina in our kitchen, just to show me that he didn't need me to help him walk to the bedroom!

I pulled a muscle in my lower back Tuesday at work, but it is much better now. It's no fun to have your back hurt!

The kids are doing fine. Brooks ALMOST has his 4th tooth - it has been almost ready to erupt for over a week now. He will be a happier boy once it comes. I am going to have his 1 year pics made next week, so that hopefully he will be happier...

Sorry there isn't any funny news this week. I guess I can be thankful for that too... :)

Here is another video of Brooks on his walk and learn.

He looks so grown up.

I don't like it when he looks grown up.

We are pooped

Brooks' birthday party was today. Granted, it was few in number, but I'm sure that our family and friends were thinking of us! I made his cake a Pumpkin Praline Torte (minus the pecans). For those who don't know, I make special cakes for our kids on their birthday, just like my Mom did. As I was making the cake today, I told Scott, "I just can't wait to hear our kids complain (one day) that they don't have birthday cakes like everyone else..." Oh well.

He liked the cake! But, he didn't eat it as well as Kate did her first cake. He got a Giraffe/Blocks toy from Mama and Daddy, a Tad Leap Frog toy from GanGan and PawPaw, a telephone from Cousin Megan and Aunt Trice, a walk and learn from Mimi and Pa, a dump truck from Miss Meredith and Miss Abby, and pajamas from Uncle Mark and Aunt Leah.

Tonight, Brent and Rebecca (and kids) and Mark and Leah (and kids) came over for supper and to watch the GA/AL game. We enjoyed having them over so much! It felt like a "coming out" party for our house we have been working so hard on. The kids had so much fun. When everyone left, Kate asked me, "Did you have fun, Mama?" When I asked her the same, she said, "Yes Mam, Mama!"

Super heated dryer

Funniest story on my Mom, ever.

Today, knowing she had many errands to run, hurriedly pulled her jeans from the dryer to get dressed. But, for some reason, they were difficult to put on - I mean, she had to lie down on the bed to get them zipped up. Thinking that they should loosen up as she wears them, she grabbed her purse and headed out the door.

Well, they didn't. They were very uncomfortable the entire time she was out. When she got home, those jeans were the first things to come off. Guess what...

THE JEANS WERE DAD'S!

Has it been a year already...

Tomorrow is Brooks' first birthday! It is so fun to reminisce about the day he was was born. The best was knowing that the bed rest was done! (at this point, I had been confined to bed since July 21st). It was also great to be back at the hospital - we made so many good friends of the nurses when I was there before Kate was born: Mrs. Jean, Betsy, Melissa Paddock, Dana, Tanya - I could go on and on! It was so special to spend time there again (just not several weeks!)

Of course, I have added several pics from when he was born. Birthday party will be this weekend - nothing big (we'll save that for later years).
*The first is of my nurses right after they checked me and I was 5cm! (none of us expected that)
*Second is of the day he was born (yes, my pregnancy boobs have since deflated)
*The third is of Scott with Brooks - how sweet!
*The fourth is of Brooks getting ready for home, with the day gown that his Meme made, I embroidered, and wearing a tatted hat (and booties) that his GREAT-GREAT GRANDMOTHER made for each of our children.
*The fifth is of us ready to go home. The blanket he is wrapped in has accompanied babies in our family home since 1944. My Mom, as well as myself, came home in that blanket. It now travels all over the country to escort family babies - how special is that!
Happy Birthday Sweet Boy! We love you!

Playing "five"

Today, Kate asked Scott to give her "five". As Scott reached down to slap her hand, she pulled it away, saying "too slow!"

From the look in her eyes, she was very proud of herself!

Oops, I did it again...

Tonight, while Scott and I were out to dinner, that guy called again! Jim Yates. ( I am adding this to my blog so that I will remember the name). Our neighbor's girls were here watching the kids, and he called and said that someone had called his house from our number today. Well, this time we called the police.

The officer came over and called the guy from our number. I believe that Mr. Yates had him on the phone for over 10 minutes. He told him not to call our number again, and told him he was telling us the same thing. The officer said that Mr. Yates was all upset that we had called the "poe-lice... what, did we have kids or something?"

I thought the blog title was appropriate not only for Jim but for Brittney Spears' week.

Caller ID

I'm sure that you will agree that Caller ID is a wonderful addition to our lives. Who doesn't want to screen their calls before answering their phone?

Last night, this guy calls us at 9:55 PM! (nobody calls that late unless someone is sick or dead) Scott was taking the trash to the curb, and I was in bed watching HGTV. I answered the phone, and he proceeds to tell me that someone from this number called his phone SEVERAL DAYS AGO, and he was wondering who it was, and why they called! I said, I didn't remember calling anyone at this number (590-....). Well, that doesn't satisfy him. He just didn't understand why "we" called him and didn't leave a message. I said (wondering why I am even having a conversation at this point), we must have inadvertently dialed the wrong number. Then he asks, "What is your husband's name? Maybe I'll recognize his name." I said no, I wouldn't do that. Then he apologized for calling so late (I don't call ANYONE that late) and politely hung up. I was mad.

Mind you, he was never ugly; he was just insistent about finding out why we called him and didn't leave a message.

Had he never gotten a wrong number before? Why did it even matter?

Do you know anyone like that - that calls numbers back on their Caller ID because they didn't leave a message or just didn't recognize the number? Scott actually said that he has done that himself!

Just another annoying 21st century occurrence.

The word of the day was urine...

2 funny things from yesterday:

While talking on the phone to a friend, Kate pottied all over the kitchen floor (through her panties). While I was looking around for an old hand towel to clean it up, she started to "dance" in the "puddle", then SLIPPED and fell straight on her back. She was of course hysterical. While I was comforting her, I turned around (hearing Brooks) and was just in time to see him CRAWLING through the urine on the floor. Needless to say, they both got a bath afterwards. As did my floor.

Grandmama and Grandaddy were at Mom and Dad's house after a doctor's appt for lunch. I learned something about Grandmama yesterday that I didn't know!

She said that, "she always reads the last chapter of a book first, because if she doesn't like how the book ends, she isn't going to waste her time reading it..." HA!

Kateisms

"It's OK, Mama... It's OK, Mama" (while I am helping clean up urine)

"No potty, no paper (ie - toilet paper), no stickers" (after a trip to the bathroom with no potty)

"Mama sing Jesus Loves Me?" (for the 82nd time)

"Maybe next time, Mama" (after a trip to the bathroom with no potty)

4 months ago: "Going to go to Meme's house. And Pa."
today: "Going to Meme and Pa's house. And Pa."

"Where's Daddy?" "Where's Meme?" "Where's Pa?" "Where's Uncle Rick?" (you get the picture..)

"Whatcha doin' Mama?" (Mom says this is payback for all the millions of times I asked her)

"Mama, need to go potty? I'm sure, Mama" (as opposed to the last trip... see above)

Dr. K and Butterscotch

Well, today was a whirlwind! It started with all of us sleeping in late - for the first time (I think) since Brooks was born. It was only until 7:45am - but we'll take what we can get! Scott headed to Walmart to do the weekly grocery run, and I set out cleaning the house.

Since Brooks is now standing regularly in his crib, I lowered it again. He has changed so much in the last few weeks. Kate had a difficult morning with potty accidents - including a rather large spot on our recliner... argh... But, fortunately for Kate, her mother is a veterinarian and I have the urine odor remover already that we needed! (Nature's Miracle for all of those wondering)

Hayes' 3rd birthday party was today - Happy Birthday, Hayes! Kate and Brooks had a great time playing with the other kids. We stayed to watch the football game, a heart breaker for GA against SC. Like Scott said, you just hate to lose to Spurrier. Not that Brooks wasn't cheering for the dawgs - he wore his UGA onesie. And, I'm proud to say that Kate did a phenomenal potty job this afternoon - not pottying in her pullup from 1:30 to 8:30pm - and put her to bed with a dry pullup! That is a Kate record! I just hope that she isn't 5 before we see that type of day again....

In case any of you were wondering, long story short - Mark and Leah suggested that if Scott and I had a morning show on the radio, our names would be Dr. K and Butterscotch. We had a great time tonight, guys!

College freshmen and Stinky children

Ok, tonight there were gobs of freshmen from Faulkner at church. How I miss those days! Not that I miss my first few days there, but the time that I spent at Faulkner was just priceless. Not that I wish I could go back to those days; I am quite happy where my life is now. But, I love thinking about the good times I shared there with so many lifelong friends.

On the second note - this topic came up in conversation a few weeks ago with some women, and it was something I just hadn't thought about. There was a teacher there, and she said that she used the fragrance oils to make her classroom smell better, since she couldn't use plug-ins or candles. She said that her kids had begun to smell, and that she sent notes home for them to use deodorant! I instantly thought of Kate, sweaty from playing, face all red, but there is no smell - honestly, I didn't think of it until that moment. It didn't occur to me that she didn't stink.

So, when do kids begin to stink?

Oh, the thoughts of first time moms of 2 year olds.

War Eagle!

Thought this was cute - turn up your volume! War Eagle!

"Did you have fun swimming pool, Mama?"

We just got in tonight from spending the weekend in Mobile, seeing Scott's parents. We had a good time swimming in GanGan's and PawPaw's pool. That's all Kate could talk about. We also got to go to Build-a-Bear and Kate got a new puppy, "Oscar". I got some great pictures of the weekend; here are some of my favorites.

Everything was nice this weekend, except for the traffic coming home! We left Mobile at 12:45pm. First, there was a wreck just south of Greenville. We didn't make it out of first gear for AN HOUR. Luckily, the kids were troopers and did pretty good (save a few moments). We decided to stop at Priester's to give the kids a break, and thought we would buy us some faster driving the rest of the way home. Well, no, that didn't work out. It was bumper to bumper all the way home, going 45 at the most. Our 2 1/2 hour trip turned into 5 long hours.... But, we made it, the kids are bathed and clean and in bed, and Scott and I are getting ready for a long, short week of work!

Hope all had a great Labor Day too!
