I think that every family has a history of this. However, few can boast of having the Conway stubbornness. It drives Scott crazy when we talk about it, but the fact remains that I'm quite sure that it is the most stubborn of the stubborn genes ever created by God.
Which brings me to this post. Brooks. He as always been more strong willed than Kate. She, with some exception, is really easy going. Easy.
Brooks, however, is not.
He is the pickiest child EVER. He has whittled himself down to only a handful of things he will eat: hot dogs, pb&j, pizza, chicken nuggets, mandarin oranges, yogurt, french toast. That's about it. No cheese, doesn't really like milk (unless it's choc), no ice cream (won't even TRY it!), etc...
So, I have gotten stubborn. Tonight I made lasagna (a great recipe from our church's new cookbook, BTW). He won't touch it. He is crying for a hot dog. He has been crying for a while now. I even put him in the bathtub... I hope he will change his tune once he gets out.
But, I kinda doubt it.
I have got to get that book about raising strong willed children. I'm sure that there is some Conway blood in that author's past. Somewhere.

Brooks and Grant sound very much alike. He wouldn't touch his dinner tonight. He is STUBBORN! I've read the book and probably will read it again soon!
Oh, goodness. Garrett will eat whatever does not eat him first, so I haven't experienced the picky eater yet. Sure hope Marlee Sue is not going to be one! Hang in there. Kids have the darndest way of getting the nutrition they need from a handful of otherwise strange foods. The lasagna sounds great! I love a good Church cookbook!
I have that book on my nightstand; I think it will be there for a long time! Love your Christmas cards! Kathleen
Hey, that sounds great to me! Though I can't really input personal experience here, that's exactly what I would do. Good luck with all of that!
Good luck! I've had the stubborn battle at my house a few times too!
I just laughed and laughed! This post is so funny. Mostly because being a Conway, I can fully understand the depth of what you are saying here. Good luck with that stubborn streak in your little one. A bit of unsolicited information. I would make my children take a bite, one bite of everything on their plate. Then and only then could they have pb&J, etc...Sometimes, they found that they actually liked the food!
Conwayism is a GOOD THING! Used correctly, that stubborness will serve him well in the future! Bet Brooks and Mimi butt heads alot, as Mimi's got alot of that Conwayism in her too! It's my understanding that Mimi gets more and more like Tom Conway everyday! HA!
Love ya!

Persevere.....that rule about trying everything once really does work. You just have to out-stubborn the stubborn kid!! Good luck with that. xoxo Aunt Pat
Ahhhh, so you have a child like my Reagan! So NOT fun. Reagan started getting really picky with her food. My sister-in-law who has 4 kids and one a teenager said that she heard that it takes a kid 12 or 13 times before they decide if they really like it or not, so keep offering. But it sounds like little mister man is like my 2nd born (WHY is it ALWAYS the 2nd born??) and I had had enough drama at dinner so she wouldn't eat what I put infront of her, and she got to eat it for breakfast and again for lunch. She got hungry enough where she really didn't care what it was she was happy to have SOMETHING to eat. But of course, she didn't get any snacks in between either until she ate the food I had placed infront. What can I say? I am the ultimate MEAN mommy! Oh, and I have to agree with Scott about the "Conway" thing. My dad always says that Reagan has so much "Tester" (my maiden name) in her and I say..."Dad, it isn't a "tester" thing...it is a SIN problem thing!" Because in Jeremiah 7:24--it says "Yet they did not obey or incline their ear, but walked in their own counsels and in the stubbornness of their evil heart, and went backward and not forward"
I am only sharing because my parents prided themselves on our stubborness and it was nurtured in us and now I am dealing with horrible habits today. So when I see the stubborness in my darling little Reagan's heart I am swift to deal with it because I don't want her to struggle in her adult life as I have.
You are one awesome mamma!
