Aunt Neanie has many of these at the pond and calls them a form of garden spider. They get huge. I took some really cool pictures of some there...I'll have to post them. ♥Laura♥
That's Big Al....I wondered where he went. He was hanging out just outside my office window for a couple weeks but disappeared while I was out of the office a couple days. Harmless critters but they do get big and look scary. We have always called them garden spiders since they hang out in peoples' gardens and trees. Cool picture.
I have seen them before and was told he is a banana spider. They are scary but I too have heard they are harmless garden spiders. After being bitten by a brown recluse a year or two back, I don't like ANY spiders. Yuck!!!
I must say that one is quite big & would scare me too. I really don't like spiders but we have a lot of them. I had Chris kill one in the kitchen Sat. night but it didn't look anything like that one.
When David and Rach lived in Foley I walked around the house and counted about 15 of these in different places and they all looked like that. I am not the biggest fan of spiders so that really creeped me out but at least bugs won't be too much of a nuisance...just spiders. (I am less scared of snakes than spiders, maybe b/c they don't make any sounds when they are around..) Tammy

No clue what that is, but we have found 2 or 3 black widows on our front porch! I'm praying they don't find a way in like the crickets have.
Weird! I've never seen one like that. We have lots of wolf spiders, and Baron once found a black widow in the yard.

It's a yellow garden spider. Argiope aurantia.
