Aaagh! Yesterday I got out from our van, and a huge bug flew out from under it and startled me. It was black and white and had a hum that sounded like a motor. We have got some huge bugs here!

Argiope aurantia, is one of three local species of argiope orb weavers. The female golden garden spider measures 0.67 inches (17 mm). Its abdomen has two anterior bumps; the top is black with large yellow spots or patches; the carapace is silvery to yellowish-white with brown markings; the sternum is black with white stripe down the middle. The smaller male measures 0.24 inches (6 mm). The top of the abdomen is black with a pair of light stripes running lengthwise; the carapace is brownish with white setae.

I Googled it. : )

Are all of these mammoth spiders living in your yard? I have a serious phobia of arachnids, so I won't be visiting you until "spider season" is past! LOL.

Yo baby. You have these guys in your yard. I had a spider in bed with me last night. Just about asleep when I felt this thing crawling along my arm. Fortunately the TV was still on so there was enough light for me to see the thing. Swatted it, killed it, shook out all the bed covers and then I did go back to sleep. I HATE SPIDERS AND SNAKES!!

I was gonna let you know that we always called these garden spiders but I think someone has already answered that in detail. We always left them alone (if they were in the garden area) so the spiders could take care of the bugs that wanted to eat the veggies.

Just realized you didn't know who left that last one and it was Tammy F.

Wow that one is pretty gross too. At least he is outside. We always called those writing spiders when we were kids but I am sure that isn't the techincal name for them.

Megan used to try and kill bugs and spiders but now she has been telling me that they are all part of God's creatures and we need to leave them alone.
I agree that they are God's creatures but not about leaving them alone. Some I want to kill or get rid of them.

Oh my... that is creepy looking. I hate spiders but have to admit if I had my choice between a spider or one of those HUGE flying cockroaches, I would gladly let a sweet little "Charlotte" climb all over me. I am absolutely TERRIFIED of cockroaches....
